As a girl, Diana Vasquez played amongst the mangroves near her grandmother’s house in a small fishing community along the Pacific coast of Honduras. For people like her around the world, the ocean is everything – especially the coastal waters just offshore. These waters are also home to 70% of all ocean biodiversity. They are vital to people and nature.
Coastal ocean waters are where people and nature meet. And that is why we call these waters “the Community Seas.”
On World Ocean Day, Diana – Rare’s Vice President for Central America – is sharing her story of connection to the sea. Watch her video, and if you feel inspired, make a gift to Rare in honor of World Ocean Day and the people and communities around the world dedicated to its protection so that people and nature thrive.
