Most will agree that the global COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people all over the world, especially women and girls. While the Pacific remained vigilant throughout 2020, the knock-on effects on fisheries and aquaculture are starting to emerge and be better understood. Some countries such as Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu, were also hit by category 5 Cyclone Harold, which forced people to manage a natural disaster in the midst of a pandemic. Farther afield, Mauritius dealt with a large and devastating oil spill during the COVID-19 pandemic.
