Lasting impact and partnerships
For 50 years, Rare has placed people at the heart of its mission to protect and regenerate nature. In 2024, we expanded our reach, strengthened partnerships, and empowered communities to restore more land and sea than ever. By advancing behavioral science and scaling innovative solutions, we tackled biodiversity loss, climate change, and sustainability — proving people are the key to lasting impact.

The faces and stories of Rare’s loyal stakeholders
Lizanne Galbreath
When Lizanne Galbreath met Rare, she instantly felt that Rare resonated with her personal beliefs in building community and interests in nature.
“For me, Rare is a sweet spot. It’s conservation, it’s nature, it’s important, it’s fun, it’s great leadership, it’s climate change, it’s science and behavior change and pride.”
Hunter Family Foundation
Rare has partnered with the Hunter Family Foundation since 2011.
“We benefit from learning with and from Rare,” says Frank Baiocchi, HFF’s Executive Director. “Its confluence of expertise, humility, and ability to be nimble cultivates authentic relationships with community members and accelerates positive changes.”
Sam Rose
Philanthropist Sam Rose is a realist. “We don’t appreciate the earth. It’s amazing, the whole story of how this all came to be,” he says. “And giving to the environment gives me a good feeling.”
Rare credits Sam with pushing the organization to launch a U.S.-based climate program to inspire Americans to reduce their emissions.
Meet more Rare donors
Rare is grateful to our many partners, volunteers, and champions for their critical support of our work. Below, a few donors share why they chose to get involved with us.

Sven Linblad
Sven’s connection with Rare began in the 1980s when he met Brett Jenks and Paul Butler, the mastermind behind Rare’s early Pride campaigns.
“Paul’s vision was remarkable. He turned local species into cultural icons, using pride and community engagement to drive conservation. It was strategic, effective, and inspiring.”

Amy Margerum Berg
Amy has always been passionate about the edges of the land and the sea, a passion deeply rooted in her background as a coastal zone planner and her career in international ocean management.
When she discovered Rare, it felt like a perfect match for her interests and values.

Carla & Roland Villacorta
Carla says Rare has helped her family be more mindful of their own environmental impact and carbon footprint.
She also credits that first visit with Rare to the Philippines with sparking the family’s desire to focus their giving more broadly in the country.

Gary Goldring
Gary relates to Rare’s mission: “I identify with the idea that people have to believe in their value and the value of their surroundings to incentivize positive behaviors.”

Jeremy Roschelle
For Jeremy, giving to Rare connects his personal and professional life. “Rare has continued to fit with my family over the years. It’s not about parrots for us anymore.”
Today, Jeremy and his family support Rare’s coastal fisheries program, Fish Forever, in Mozambique.

Manuela Zoninsein
As a philanthropist and angel investor in women-led sustainable tech companies, Manuela gives to various causes and sectors, including the environment, women’s rights, and innovation.
