Community-led conservation in Asia Pacific
Rare combines community-led sustainable fishing with regenerative agriculture to protect marine and terrestrial ecosystems while strengthening food security, livelihoods, and climate resilience across Asia Pacific.
Whether restoring coastal reef fisheries or regenerating soils in farmland, Rare’s mission is the same: empower local communities with the tools, rights, and knowledge to safeguard their natural resources and thrive.
Why Rare works in Asia Pacific
The Asia Pacific region encompasses some of the richest marine and terrestrial biodiversity on Earth, including the Coral Triangle — often called the “Amazon of the seas.” Millions of people rely on these ecosystems for food, livelihoods, and protection from storms and sea-level rise. Rapid development, overfishing, and climate impacts make the region one of the most vulnerable and ecologically important on the planet, underscoring the urgency of community-centered conservation.
Rare’s work in the region
Rare collaborates with communities across the Asia Pacific to safeguard coastal and marine ecosystems, strengthen local governance, and build resilience in some of the world’s most biodiverse and climate-vulnerable places. Through community-led fisheries management, behavior-centered design, capacity building, and local to regional partnerships, Rare supports lasting stewardship of vital resources.
