Climate Week NYC 2024

Accelerating people-centered solutions to climate change

Climate change demands a wide range of solutions from governments, corporations, communities, and individuals. Effective solutions are people-centered—reflecting how people behave and make decisions, and responding to the needs of communities most impacted by climate change.

At Climate Week New York City, Rare will highlight how we accelerate people-centered climate solutions, inspire their adoption with behavior-based strategies, and scale them through finance, policy, and partnerships.

Leaders on the Frontlines

Coastal communities are imperiled by climate change. The Rare-supported Coastal 500 network—a finalist for the 2023 Earthshot Prize—empowers local leaders to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other to help their communities build climate resilience.

At NYCW, Rare’s Rocky Sanchez Tirona will participate in an Earthshot Innovation Camp. Listen to her recent interview about the Coastal 500 on the How to Protect the Ocean podcast.

Connecting nature to climate

Mangroves are one of nature’s greatest gifts to curbing climate change. In Brazil, they also anchor ecosystems and sustain fish populations and other marine life essential to local livelihoods and food security. Now, local women are leading the protection of mangroves.

Scaling Ocean-Climate Action

At COP28, Rare unveiled its Small Scale Fisheries Impact Bond to deploy private and philanthropic capital toward protecting vital ocean ecosystems and building the climate resilience of coastal communities. At NYCW, Rare will celebrate the launch of the Impact Bond’s pilot cohort.

Earlier this year, Rare joined Data for Good at Meta and the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication fielded the first global study assessing adoption of, and barriers to, climate-friendly behaviors across 37 high-emitting, high-income countries. This data allows policymakers, NGOs, marketers and others to compare progress across countries associated with high-impact climate solutions.
