Statement of Rare President Caleb McClennen on the Historic COP15 Global Biodiversity Framework

“The Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) agreed upon at CBD COP15 today marks a historic moment for nature and people. We congratulate the global leaders, governments, negotiators, and people from around the world for coming together in support of such ambitious goals for the health of our planet. We specifically commend the commitments to 30×30, increased financing, and the elevated role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the delivery of the GBF.

“Making good on these commitments will take cooperation and leadership, especially from local leaders and communities whose food security and livelihoods depend on productive and resilient natural resources. As dialogue and action now shifts to meeting or exceeding these biodiversity goals, local voices must have a seat at the table. The GBF will further bolster Rare’s people-centered solutions that protect vital ecosystems across land and sea, while ensuring the improved livelihoods of fishers, farmers, and local communities around the world.”
