For Fernando and Anarsila, two smallholder farmers in Colombia’s fertile Meta region, regenerative farming is a way of life. “It’s our way to take care of our diversity, our children,” Anarsila shares. “Everything is in the field: life, love, and well-being.”
But life in Colombia’s conflict-ridden rural areas has created challenges for Fernando and Anarsila’s family to overcome. “Our path as peasants has been tough…the toughest because of the armed conflict,” Anarsila says. “Starting from scratch. That’s life. Our life is a novel.”
With support from Rare’s Lands for Life program, Fernando and Anarsila have been working together to rebuild their land and adopt more regenerative practices on their farm. “I’m seeing that the farm […], in some years, can be more sustainable,” Fernando adds. “It’s beautiful. Tomorrow we’ll have a reforested and sustainable environment.”
