Rare mourns the passing of Gustavo Fonseca, a former member of our Board, an esteemed scientist and strategist, a mentor and friend to many, and a true conservation hero. Gustavo served as a Rare Trustee from 2011 to 2016, providing outstanding leadership, vision, and knowledge around ecological impact and program strategy. He was instrumental in the launch of our work in Brazil. His passion for nature and for conservation strategy were eclipsed only by his love of family, friends, and Brazil. Rare will continue to draw inspiration from Gustavo’s legacy as we pursue our mission to inspire change so people and nature thrive.
