Protect American Forests
According to US Forest Service data, 46% of the land we call America was once covered in forests. By donating, you are protecting forests that otherwise would be cut down for lumber or land development.
The American Forests Bundle protects over 8,800 acres of domestic forests, including nearly 1,900 acres of old growth trees including cypress trees that are 1,000 years old.

High value forest conservation projects
We are constantly searching for domestic U.S. projects that deliver high value both in terms of climate mitigation as well as value for wildlife habitat and neighboring communities. Current projects include the Hersey Mountain Forest project in New England and the Beidler Forest project in South Carolina.
Serving people and nature
To meet Rare’s standards, all projects in our forest bundles must be multi-dimensional. This means that the projects support local communities and protect biodiverse habitats.
These projects provide community resources including summer camps and school field trips.
These projects provide habitat for hundreds of species of birds and countless other species
Miles of hiking trails, including boardwalks winding through 1,000 year-old cypress trees.

Verified climate positive impact
Your support makes a measurable impact in the fight against climate change. At Rare, we only consider projects that meet the highest quality and verification standards. All of our projects are independently verified by top organizations including Gold Standard, the Climate Action Reserve and the American Carbon Registry. Any project offered to Rare supporters meets a rigorous set of standards, including:
- Additional – their carbon reduction would not be achieved without the project in place.
- Measureable – the project has a reliable and proven protocol for measuring how much greenhouse gas it prevents or sequesters.
- Transparent – the project shares as much information as possible on a more than annual basis.
- Permanent – all emissions reductions or removals are long term.
- Airight – there are no hidden increases in emissions related to the project.
- Accountable – we use an enforceable carbon credit system to ensure there is no ‘double-counting’
