In 2022, Rare celebrates and supports the United Nations’ International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture. During this special year, we are featuring the countless contributions of artisanal and small-scale fishing community members who are creating a more bountiful and sustainable life for their communities and the 500 million people who depend on this sector.

Through Fish Forever, Rare works with over 1,700 fishing communities and over 150,000 small-scale fishers to strengthen community-led coastal fisheries management in the developing tropics. Protecting and managing coastal territorial waters offers extraordinary value as an equitable strategy to safeguard biodiversity, ensure livelihoods and food security, and build the climate resilience of hundreds of millions of people.
