Rare Announces John de Wet as its new CFO

De Wet brings years of experience in conservation and mission-driven organizations

(Arlington, VA) Today, Rare announced John de Wet as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In his role, de Wet will oversee Rare’s financial strategy and operations, ensuring the organization’s resources effectively support its mission to inspire change for the benefit of people and nature. De Wet brings more than 15 years of financial leadership experience in the nonprofit sector to this role.

Before joining Rare, de Wet served as CFO at Evidence Action for seven years, where he led the organization’s finance, operations, IT, legal, and compliance functions. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in scaling cost-effective solutions to reduce poverty worldwide. His career also includes senior leadership positions at Arabella Advisors, BirdLife International, and Conservation International, where he contributed to advancing global social and environmental initiatives.

John is a certified accountant and an international associate member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. De Wet holds a Master’s degree in Environment and Development and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Town. Early in his career, he worked in investment banking, private equity, and environmental consulting, along with roles at public conservation agencies in South Africa.
